A program to encourage elementary fifth grade girls to express themselves in positive ways and to form a bond with one another.
We support the Oncology Department at Dayton Children's Medical Center, providing them with activities for the children to do while they're receiving treatment.
The Kettering Noon Optimist Club sponsors the Kettering Jr. Optimist Club (#A1543) at Kettering Middle School. Club was chartered on June 20, 2000.
Each year, the Kettering Noon Optimist Club sponsors an Essay Contest, open to local area students under 18 years of age. Local club winners advance to Zone contests and then onto the Ohio District Contest. Scholarships are awarded to the winners.
The Kettering Noon Optimist Club supports Optimist International with the annual Margaret Barclay Memorial Oratorical Contest. This contest provides an opportunity for students to develop important public speaking skills. Students under the age of 18 as of October 1st are eligible to participate. Contestants deliver a four to five minute speech at regular club meetings in February. One or two winners from each club's contest advance to the zone competition, and then can advance to regionals, then to the finals at the district level. Winners at the state level receive a scholarship.
Each year, the Kettering Noon Optimist Club members donate items to stock the holiday shop at the Kettering Early Childhood Education Center, and volunteer to help during the event.
Each spring, the Kettering Noon Optimist Club recognize outstanding youth in our community, usually nominated by their advisors.
Each year, the Kettering Noon Optimist Club recognizes an outstanding officer of the Kettering Police Department.
The Kettering Noon Optimist Club provides (3) $1500 scholarships to outstanding area youth and (1) $1000 scholarship to a CTC student.
Each year, the Kettering Noon Optimist Club partners with other area Optimist Clubs to provide a day in the park to local area families. Games, food, prizes, special visitors, and fun are enjoyed by many, many area youth and their families.
Once a year, the Kettering Noon Optimist Club invites ladies in the community to enjoy a glass of wine, or a soft drink, and some appetizers, and learn more about our club. Raffle prizes, snacks, and wine! We hope you'll want to join KNO and help us with volunteering in the community for the benefit of the children.
The Kettering Noon Optimist Club members support the Kettering Backpack Program by donating microwave cups of mac and cheese, and by our donations to assist with this program to feed children.
KNO, in collaboration with New Balance Dayton and Roderer Shoe Center, offers you a chance to support a child with a new pair of shoes and socks for only $30/child.
